Chesapeake Field Trial Specialty

CoolWater's Roane Point - "Fen"

CoolWater’s Roane Point – “Fen”

The national Chesapeake Field Trial Specialty was held in Cheraw, SC October 29-31. It’s not very often the Field Trial Specialty is so close to home and while I’ve attended several National Show Specialties for the breed, I’ve never attended the FTS before. I had a great time visiting with old friends and meeting new ones. I saw a few beautiful Chesapeakes and without a doubt some wonderful working animals as well. An added bonus to the trip is that our “Fen” (Logan x Nova) was entered in the wee puppy stakes with her owner Laurea Griggs of Newnan, GA.

Laurea has been working diligently with Fen and her working with Fen regularly showed as Fen won the wee puppy stakes. We are quite excited about this duo and look forward to seeing what they’ll do in the future.

CoolWater's Fly Me To the Moon - Gabby

GABBY

CoolWater's Fly Me To The Moon - Gabby

SHR CoolWater’s Fly Me To The Moon – Gabby

Gabby is 23″, 72 lbs. and dark sedge. Her coat is very course, very short and thick.

She resides in Mississippi and is co-owned with Kevin & Pam Goodrum and Connie Colvin of Alabama. She is primarily a hunting companion.

Gabby is highly intelligent and very active. She is proving herself to be easily trainable and she picks up on concepts well. She is a fast and stylish retriever with good marking ability. Gabby earned her UKC  Started Hunting Retriever title (SHR) by going 4 for 4.

Temperament wise Gabby is very friendly and social.

Conformation wise, Gabby has many nice attributes – beautiful head with little ears/nice ear set, nice topline, great depth of chest and an underline which many Chesapeakes lack. Gabby has shown limitedly in AKC shows. She currently has 10 points (including a major).

She will periodically continue running hunt tests and showing to finalize her championship and we will update the website with her progress.

CoolWater's SuperNova

Training Day: Tallahassee, FL

Today, I received some wonderful photos that were taken of Risk and Nova during a training day. It was so nice for someone to go out of their way to make copies, put them on disk and mail them to me – as a bit of a surprise. I thought I’d share and I hope you enjoy them as I do.

Show Report: Tallahassee, FL

It was a good weekend at the dog shows.

Friday, Risk,  CoolWater’s Out On A Limb, took Winners Dog and Best of Winners for 2 points. Nova, CoolWater’s SuperNova, took Winners Bitch and Best Opposite Sex for a point.

Saturday, Risk took Winners Dog, Best of Winners for another 2 points and Nova took Winners Bitch, Best Opposite Sex for a point.

Sunday, Nova took Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best Opposite Sex, which earned her her second major win.

Risk only needs one point to obtain his show championship and Nova only 5 points.

We’re very proud of them!

Puppies

COMMITMENT

Making a commitment to obtain a Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy shouldn’t be taken lightly. It is a long-term commitment as the average lifespan for a Chesapeake is 8-15 years.

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a hardy active breed. As puppies, Chesapeakes requires a lot of socialization, basic obedience, and a firm but honest owner. If you cannot provide these basic items, then a Chesapeake puppy might not be for you.

Chesapeakes are best suited with a job to do – whether it be retrieving the morning paper to retrieving ducks from a blind to obedience work to agility trials. If you aren’t sure whether a Chesapeake Bay Retriever is right for you, but you’d like to learn more, please contact me. I’m happy to help guide you through making the right decision for you and your family.
