Show Report: Atlanta, GA

CoolWater's SuperNova

CoolWater's SuperNova

We’re happy to hear that CoolWater’s SuperNova aka “Nova” did very well this past weekend at the dog shows in Atlanta, GA.

Nova took Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex both Saturday and Sunday – obtaining her first set of points.

I received several emails/texts/phone calls from various people stating that Nova is quite a looker and that she’ll have no problems finishing – fingers crossed they’re right!

Good job, Nova!

Congratulations to her owners – Connie & Heath.

Happy Birthday, Jessie!

Each year my dogs get a special treat on their birthday – they each get a white cupcake (with frosting) and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We celebrate our birthdays, so why not celebrate theirs? I must also admit my guilty pleasure of having the pups wear party hats …. and photographing them. Yes. I know. I’m aweful.

Jessie was so excited to get her treat that her teeth were chattering and her ears were quivering. :)

Show Report: American Chesapeake Club Supported Entry – Greenville, SC

This past weekend I went to Greenville, SC to attend a dog show. Normally, I don’t travel so far for dog shows but this weekend there was an American Chesapeake Club Supported Entry. Because of this, there was a much larger Chessie entry than ‘normal’ here in the South East. There were Chessies  from Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, the Carolina’s, Maryland and other places. In all, there were 20+ Chessies in the ring Friday through Sunday. Two “CoolWater” dogs were participating in the show, so I wanted to go and support them. Boy am I glad I went! We did quite well…

SHR CoolWater’s Out On A Limb JH aka “Risk”took Winners Dog (WD) for a 4 point major on Friday. Not only was he the only hunt test titled dog entered, but this was ONLY his second weekend showing! He now has both his majors needed towards his Championship.

 And…. we now have a new Champion….

CH CoolWater’s The Tide Is High aka “Jesse” was entered on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Jesse took Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for a 5 point major. On Sunday, Jesse not only took Winners Bitch and Best of Winners, for another 5 pt. major, but she also took Best Opposite Sex over Specials.  Jesse, with very limited showing, earned her Championship with her last three showings earning her two-5 pt. majors at a Supported weekend in South Carolina and a 4 pt. major at a regional Specialty in Maryland. Not too shabby for a dog not even two yet.

And to top it off — “Risk” and CoolWater’s Super Nova aka “Nova” received “clear” CERFs! A good weekend indeed.

Dock Diving Report: Jessie

Well, as you know by my post below, Jessie was entered in a Dock Diving competition a couple of weekends ago. She did very well. At the end of the day on Saturday, she had qualified for 4th place in the “Amateur” division. On Sunday, however, she jumped herself out of the “Amateur” division with two jumps over 18′ (18’4″ and 18’8″).  Going into the finals she ended up as the 1st alternate for the “Semi-Pro” division. Even though she didn’t end up jumping in the finals, a photographer that was there managed to get some great photos of her jumping. I thought I’d share them.

Show Report: SouthHaven, Mississippi

Congratulations to “Oak” (CH Jala’s Misty Hill CoolWater Oak) and his owners/co-owners on his fabulous weekend in the ring. Saturday, in SouthHaven, MS, Oak took Best of Breed and a Group 4 placement. Sunday, he, again, took Best of Breed and then a Group 3 placement – not bad for a dog that’s only 20 months old! Needless to say, I’m quite pleased!

Oak is from our girl, Morgan and CH* Misty Hill Nash. He’s going to spend some time playing in the field and we’ll possibly see him out again later this year or early 2012.

Obedience Report: New CGC

CoolWater Chesapeakes - Liam obtains his CGC

CoolWater's Wish Me Luck 'O The Irish - "Liam" obtains his CGC

Liam and Sylvia earned their CGC (Canine Good Citizen certificate) this weekend. I hear that Liam did a fabulous job and is now honing his off lead work (possibly for a CD?) and gearing up for his therapy certification. Fabulous!

Puppy Play Date

We had another fabulous puppy play date at Barkley Square Dog Park. I love this park – 15 fenced acres with large gorgeous oaks on the property. There’s also a nice pond which the dogs can swim in – perfect for ‘water dogs’ in the area. I was very pleased with the puppies.

Nola is turning into an amazing retriever. She was easily doing 100+ yard retrieves in the water and on land she’s super fast. She would have made an amazing hunting companion.

Liam is still gaining his water legs but he made great stride. He’s swimming well and was retrieving nicely. He has the best offlead heel I’ve seen in quite some time.

Lastly, Jules went swimming for her first time. She did very well – no awkwardness or splashing about as many puppies do. All-in-all I was very happy with the pups.

Obedience Report: Posy, Liam & Nola

Congratulations to Posy, Liam and Nola for all graduating basic obedience classes.

It has been a number of years since Jon, Posy’s owner, has trained a dog in obedience – where he earned a High in Trial on a Daschund. He’s made the transition to “Chessie” ownership quite nicely and Posy is doing fabulous with her training.

Nola’s owners, Glen & Kristin, haven’t taken a formal obedience class before, having trained their last Chessie themselves. They knew as soon as they got Nola that she is one smart dog that would need a little more direction. They took my advice and enrolled her in puppy classes and are glad that they did.  Nola is a lot of puppy with lots of drive and between obedience classes, daily walks and weekly swims in the ocean, Nola is becoming a good canine citizen. Good girl, Nola!

Sylvia, Liam’s owner, has been doing a fabulous job attending obedience classes with him. After puppy classes, Liam went into basic obedience like a real champ. He’s a rising star in his class and the instructors often comment on how well he’s doing. He’ll soon be taking the AKC CGC (canine good citizen) test/certification. Good luck, Liam! We look forward to your success!

Hunt Test Report – New JH title – Mississippi

SHR CoolWater's Out On a Limb JH

SHR CoolWater's Out On a Limb JH

I’m proud to report that “Risk” obtained his AKC Junior Hunter title this weekend in Mississippi. He was flawless the first day. The second day, he decided to add his own ‘style’ to the retrieves but in the end he got the job done.

Risk now has his UKC Started Hunting Retriever and AKC Junior Hunter titles. He also has one major in conformation. Onwards to Seasoned and Senior and obtaining that show Championship.

Congratulations to Connie on a job well done handling Risk to his Hunt Test titles!

Dock Dogs: Alabama

Nothing goes better together than a Chesapeake and water. Throw a little retrieving in the mix and you have Chessie heaven. Risk & Nova (both live in Alabama) have really taken a liking to the Dock Dogs sport!

Nova won the Junior Division this weekend with a jump of 18′ 4″ (she only needed a jump of 14’11”). Risk came in third in the Senior Division with his 18’6″ jump.

I’m quite proud of this jumping duo.
