2014 National Chesapeake Show Speciality

Thought I’d give a little update from our recent time at the Chessie National Specialty.

Jesse – GCH** CoolWater’s The Tide Is High – made it through two cuts in the breed ring.

Patton – CH CoolWater’s Patton’s Destiny is Some Great Thing – placed in sweeps and made the first cut in a very competitive breed ring.

Fen – SHR CoolWater’s Roane Point BN, RN- picked up two new titles Beginners Novice Obedience (BN) and Rally Novice(RN). She also earned her first leg towards her Companion Dog title (CD). In conformation, Fen took 4th in a large class with many other nice Chesapeakes. This gave Fen the Versatility award – qualifying in three events.

All in all I couldn’t be prouder of our crew and the dogs who did their best to give us 100% each time we asked.

What a Weekend!

Boy, I love it when I receive news that I wasn’t expecting. It was a great weekend for our gang and I thought I’d share some of the updates:

  • Fen (Logan x Nova) – SHR CoolWater’s Roane Point – picked up her first Junior Hunter pass and her sire his first Master Hunter pass in GA.
  • Patton (Logan x Nova) – CH CoolWater’s Patton’s Destiny Is Some Great Thing – completed his AKC Championship in Springfield, MA.
    • Patton finished his Championship in 5 weekends with 3 majors at just under 10 months of age!
  • Oak (Nash x Morgan) – GCH* Jala’s Misty Hill CoolWater Oak – earned 3-Group 3’s and 1-Group 2 win in Birmingham, Alabama.

I am just over the moon excited for everyone and their accomplishments! What a wonderful weekend.

Jesse the Chessie

GCH CoolWater's The Tide Is High- "Jesse"

GCH CoolWater’s The Tide Is High- “Jesse”

We had a very nice surprise this weekend. Jesse, who has been taking some time off  from showing, came back out this weekend in preparation for her attendance at the Eukanuba shows at the end of the year.

This weekend, each day she was entered, she took Best Opposite Sex to the #1 Chessie in the country. The entries averaged to about 17-18 Chesapeakes each day  – as such these placements were nice wins for her.

She received many compliments both from judges and other Chesapeake breeders and we couldn’t be prouder.

And she turns 11

Today, our Jessie turns 11 years old. I’m not sure where the time has gone as it seems like yesterday when we picked her up from a Chesapeake Breeder in MS.

Jessie has always been a handful. She’s probably the smartest dog I’ve ever encountered. I know everyone says that about their dogs, but this is true. And, Jessie isn’t just ‘book smart’ (in that she picks up on things easily) but she is conniving and she is always scheming up ways to get what she wants. For example,  one day my mother was watching Jessie for the day. When I went to pick her up, I noticed Jessie standing there very proud of herself with this rather large nice stuffed animal which I KNEW wasn’t hers. I went to take it away from her and my mother stated, “Don’t she earned that.”

Puzzled, I questioned her. “She earned it?” Immediately I think, oh boy what did she do.

The story continues:

Mom: “You know the closet in the sewing room?”
Me: “Yeah.”
Mom: “You know the wire shelf at the very top?”
Me: “Yeah.”
Mom: “You know how there was fabric at the very top?” “Well, the stuffed animal was on top of all the folded fabric at the very top of the closet. She saw it there and I told her, NO, Not for Jessie but she had other ideas. So, I stood back and watched her.”

“You know how there is that small tote in front of the closet?”
Me: “Yeah.”
Mom: “Well, Jessie stood on the tote and she looked up at the toy. She jumped once and she couldn’t reach it. The next time, she jumped higher. The third time she jumped even higher and that time she was able to reach the fabric at the very bottom of the pile on the wire shelf. The next time she jumped she pulled the fabric out of the bottom. As she continued jumping each time she would pull the fabric just a little more. Eventually, she pulled all the fabric down out of the closet and all that was left was the stuffed animal.

You see, she earned it.”

I wish I could say that this is just one story that Jessie has given me. However, Jessie’s life has been story after story after story. Gosh. I wish everyone a dog like Jessie. Although, I’m not sure everyone could handle a dog like her.

Happy Birthday Old Girl. We wish you many more.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppies

Puppies! Logan x Nova

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppies

Nova and Puppies

This morning, Nova delivered 12 beautiful puppies – 4 girls and 8 boys. While there are some color variations, it appears most are varying shades of brown with one being a very light brown (or maybe dark deadgrass). They are all healthy and range from 8 -13 oz. at this time.

Nova is resting comfortably and is being a very attentive mom. For more information on puppy availability or for more information on Nova/Logan please contact us at: [email protected] or 407.212.1741.

Great Hunt: South Carolina – “Cali”

Jala's Misty Hill Coolwater Cali - "Cali"

Jala’s Misty Hill Coolwater Cali – “Cali”
(Morgan x Nash)

I love getting photos of the dogs. Today, I touched base with one of the pup owners (which I often do) and I received this great note and photo.

“Had a big day….. Opener for ducks and dove. She strolled through two limit of ducks this am and an afternoon limit of dove.”

Funny, some people think a show dog can’t hunt or that a hunting dog can’t show. We strive for good lookin’ dogs that can, hopefully, do both. Cali is from a litter that currently has 3 AKC Champions (and one more to be titled in 2013).

Show Update: Raleigh, NC

It’s been a good weekend in Raleigh, NC. Jesse – GCH CH CoolWater’s The Tide Is High, picked up two BOS wins. On Sunday, she went and picked up a Best of Breed win AND made the first cut in Group. Her handler reported that Jesse’s showing very nicely at the moment.

We’re very proud of the two of them.

Show Report: Atlanta Georgia

I’ve been very lax in posting lately – I’ve just been busy with other things.

This weekend, two of our boy Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Oak – Jala Misty Hill CoolWater Oak – and Rip – CoolWater’s RipTide – were entered in the shows in Atlanta, GA.

Oak, took Best Of Breed two of the four days entered. This earned him his Grand Champion title. As such, he is now GCh Ch** Jala Misty Hill CoolWater Oak.

Rip, took WD/BOW three of the four days entered. He received some very nice compliments from the judges. He now needs just one point for his championship. We’re so close… so very close.

Show Update: Fletcher, NC

It was a great weekend in Fletcher, NC.  Jesse took Best of Breed on Saturday under judge Shirley Fippin. Then, on Sunday she took Best of Breed again under judge Nikki Riggsbee. That gives her three BoB wins in a row. We’re very proud of her.
