Show Report: West Friendship, MD

GCH CoolWater's The Tide is High "Jesse"

It was a very good weekend in West Friendship, MD. Friday, “Jesse” won Best of Breed under judge Joe Purkhiser. I was very excited about this win. However, what’s even more exciting is that Mr. Purkhiser also gave her littermate “Oak” one of his first group wins several months back.  On Saturday, Jesse took the Select Bitch win and on Sunday, she again took Best of Breed under judge Nancy Cowley.

This was Jesse’s second weekend out this year. I look forward to reporting her achievements as she ventures forward.

Jesse - CH CoolWater's the Tide is High

Show Report: West Friendship, MD

What a great weekend! Jesse was entered Saturday and Sunday in the shows in West Friendship, MD.

Saturday, Jesse (CH CoolWater’s the Tide is High) was entered in the regional specialty. She took the Select Bitch win under breeder judge, Mrs. JoAnn Colvin. This gave her another major (I do believe) towards her Grand Championship.

Sunday, she took BEST OF BREED, over many nice entries – including several specials – earning herself yet another major towards her Grand Championship.

If I counted correctly, I believe she might’ve earned her Grand Championship. If so, she earned it in 6 shows by taking a major win at each show. That’s awesome!

A huge thank you to Nicole Culotta with Golden Moments Petography for taking the candid photos of Jesse for me in the ring.

CH CoolWater's The Tide Is High

Show Report: Salisbury, MD

I’ve been very fortunate lately with one of Morgan’s puppies. Jesse, the girl who took Select Bitch at the National Show Specialty had a very good weekend in Salisbury, MD.

  • Friday, she took Best Opposite Sex (BOS) to earn herself her second major towards her Grand Championship.
  • Saturday, she took Select Bitch (Sel B) to earn herself her third major towards her Grand Championship.
  • Sunday, she took Best Opposite Sex (BOS) to ear herself her fourth major (I think I counted correctly) towards her Grand Championship.

Jesse was competing against other dogs that were considerably older and more mature than she is. Jesse just turned two the end of September and will specialed, out on the show circuit, in 2012. It’ll be interesting, and exciting, watching her accomplishments in the upcoming year.

Show Report: 2011 Chesapeake National Show Specialty – Carlisle, PA

This weekend I attended the National Chesapeake Show Specialty in Carlisle, PA. Although I didn’t take any dogs up with me, Jesse, a Morgan x Nash puppy, was entered in the Best of Breed competition.  I’m very proud to announce that Jesse took the Select Bitch award. This is a very big win at one of the largest Chessie National Show Specialties in the history of the breed (over 400 entries). I couldn’t be more proud or excited about this young girl and the potential she shows.

Show Report: American Chesapeake Club Supported Entry – Greenville, SC

This past weekend I went to Greenville, SC to attend a dog show. Normally, I don’t travel so far for dog shows but this weekend there was an American Chesapeake Club Supported Entry. Because of this, there was a much larger Chessie entry than ‘normal’ here in the South East. There were Chessies  from Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, the Carolina’s, Maryland and other places. In all, there were 20+ Chessies in the ring Friday through Sunday. Two “CoolWater” dogs were participating in the show, so I wanted to go and support them. Boy am I glad I went! We did quite well…

SHR CoolWater’s Out On A Limb JH aka “Risk”took Winners Dog (WD) for a 4 point major on Friday. Not only was he the only hunt test titled dog entered, but this was ONLY his second weekend showing! He now has both his majors needed towards his Championship.

 And…. we now have a new Champion….

CH CoolWater’s The Tide Is High aka “Jesse” was entered on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Jesse took Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for a 5 point major. On Sunday, Jesse not only took Winners Bitch and Best of Winners, for another 5 pt. major, but she also took Best Opposite Sex over Specials.  Jesse, with very limited showing, earned her Championship with her last three showings earning her two-5 pt. majors at a Supported weekend in South Carolina and a 4 pt. major at a regional Specialty in Maryland. Not too shabby for a dog not even two yet.

And to top it off — “Risk” and CoolWater’s Super Nova aka “Nova” received “clear” CERFs! A good weekend indeed.

CH CoolWater's The Tide is High

Jesse takes Winners Bitch at the regional Specialty in Maryland under breeder judge Robyn Haskin.

This weekend was a Chessie Specialty in Maryland. There was a rather large entry with something like 48 entries. Jessie, Coolwater’s the Tide is High, was entered for ring experience. I really didn’t expect her to do anything as the competition in the Mid-Atlantic/New England area is very tough. I was absolutely thrilled when I received a phone call from Jessie’s co-owner telling me that Jessie took Winners Bitch for a 4 pt. major — and under a breeder judge at that!

Congratulations to Tom Flores, Jessie’s co-owner and a huge thank you to Judge Robyn Haskin for awarding Jessie the win and Darlene Bergan for handling Jessie so nicely that day!

Show Report: Virginia

Jessie, aka CoolWater’s The Tide is High, earned herself 3 points in the show ring in Virginia. On Thursday, she took winners bitch and best opposite sex for a point. On Friday, she took winners bitch, best of winners and best opposite sex for 2 points. This is fabulous news considering Jessie was competiting against some dogs that were more than double her age and maturity.

Jessie has received many nice compliments from fellow breeders/judges and handlers. She’s a happy go lucky girl that’s enjoying the show ring. I was told, by a fellow breeder, that she’s very pretty and tends to show herself. Very nice compliment, indeed!

I look forward to hearing more about this little girl in the future!

The Puppies are Off to a Great Start!

What a great weekend for the CoolWater crew!

I took both Trixie & Rip to the dog shows in Vero Beach, FL. Both did VERY well considering they’ve never really shown before. They were a little hesitant — lots of other dogs, lots of people, lots of noises, lots of things whirling by — but all-in-all I’m very proud of them both. My goal for the weekend was a.) to introduce the puppies to the show ring b.) let them have fun and c.) get them to stand still so the judges could go over them. Well, we succeeded in doing all of the above and then some….

Saturday, a good friend of mine, showed Trixie in the 6-9 mos. old puppy class. Trixie took Winners Bitch for 1 point. Yay Trixie! Rip, took reserve to the other (much more mature) male (who was 2 1/2 yrs. old). However, also on Saturday, Rip took best puppy in breed.

Sunday, I showed both Rip and Trixie. Trixie took Winners Bitch (for another point) and Rip took Winners Dog & Best of Winners (1 point).

While the points were nice, what was even nicer happened when I walked out of the show ring on Sunday. When I walked out of the ring, I was confronted by a woman who was sitting, watching, ringside. She told me that my male puppy was OUTSTANDING and that he has a very bright future ahead of him. She continued on to say that ‘provided he doesn’t fall apart’ she could see the two of us doing great things together. She said he was, without a doubt, the best dog in the ring that day and that the only reason he didn’t take breed was a.) because I’m a novice handler and b.) because of his age. She said the judge was very big on presentantion, handlers and won’t put a young pup up over older dogs. Now, I didn’t know this person but it turns out she shows Golden Retrievers. I left the show that day?feeling very warm-fuzzy and happy.

To add to the good news, in Virgina, under Judge Elizabeth Muthard, “Jesse“, also received her first point by going Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed over an older male. This was her first weekend out! ?Woot, Woot!? The judge commented that although the male was more mature she just had to give Jessie the point as?her movement was flawless.

On Saturday, at the Virginia show, a fellow Chessie breeder, that I know well, was standing ringside and had the opportunity to see “Jesse.” Of course, when I found out I had to ask his opinion (especially since I haven’t seen her since she was 8 weeks old). He reported that “Jesse” has probably about the nicest tail carriage that he’s seen, that she has a beautiful coat, course and thick and that she’s much more mature than her mother at this age. He also stated that she had a great attitude and she handled everything very well. To hear this from a fellow breeder, makes me very proud!

So,  several puppies out of the Morgan x Nash litter now are pointed. Oak, has 4 points including 1 major; Trixie, 2 points; Rip, 1 point; and Jesse, 1 point — not bad for young puppies and their first weekends out.

I wish I had photos to share. A friend took some ringside but apparently she deleted them by accident.
